Over the last decade, the issue of childhood obesity, and racial and ethnic health disparities has become one of the most pressing problems plaguing this nation's health care system. Myriad studies and reports, including the Institute of Medicine's Unequal Treatment: Confronting Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health Care, document that racial and ethnic minorities, compared to whites, often have less access to health care, receive lower-quality health care, and have higher rates of illness, injury, and premature death.

As a response to health disparities,  team PRAISE and Goaldiggers will participate in the Under Armour Baltimore Marathon, on Saturday, October 15, 2011 to bring an awareness to this issue, while raising funds for the students participating in PRAISE and Goaldiggers.
